Bio

Kyle Vanderburg (b. 1986) is a composer and sound artist whose music lurks between “this sounds familiar” and “what was that!?” Raised in southeast Missouri, where the Mississippi River valley meets the Ozark foothills, Kyle grew up listening to a mix of American hymnody, bluegrass, high school band music, and power tools. Kyle's music has been played and/or listened to on five continents. Some of those performances were at ICMC, SEAMUS, NYCEMF, Sonorities (UK), MUSLAB (Mexico), ClarinetFest®, and CMS. Sometimes he’s a finalist for The American Prize. His music can be heard alongside better pieces on releases by Ablaze, Ravello, Zorno, and Cero Records. Kyle studied composition at Drury University (AB) and the University of Oklahoma (MM, DMA), where he studied under Carlyle Sharpe, Marvin Lamb, Konstantinos Karathanasis, and Roland Barrett. He currently serves as Composer in Residence at North Dakota State University because nobody proofread his business cards. KyleVanderburg.com.
